General Tire Burnouts at the Baja 500, BJ Baldwin and Jason Voss making some smoke! This is soooo sweet. I real like the sound of B.J.’s Chevrolet, (hey no offense Jason Voss, ok) There will be never a replacement for some serious Detroit V8 power and the sound that comes with it. I assume down the road Baja Racing, Offroad Racing, heck even most of the motorsport will change for many reasons, we are in that situation already with reduced starter fields, teams downsizing for $ reasons, large companies like Chevrolet and Chrysler going broke. Companies with a big history also in motorsport and desert racing, this is all very sad for a race fan to see but it’s the reality. It will be hard for any car manufacture in the world to justify to the mainstream Joe Dow that millions are spend in the sport while 1000′s of workers get laid off. It will be hard to justify to run engines that burn huge amounts of gasoline while somewhere else the ecologic / environmental point is taken a bigger impact on our daily life as in saving energy. And no – I’m not a tree-hugger or green environmental terrorist wanting to put the world 100 years back living in houses made of hay-bales – I just look at facts and hopeful I will be proof wrong in that matters. I believe that affords as shown by Mitsubishi, VW or X-Raid / BMW with using high performance diesel engines will produce some great racing and competition as well. The only thing that never will be is THAT sound…. I really would be curious from the tech point of view if guessing in the right direction by thinking that the Voss racetruck has a milder cam in as B.J.’s Chevy (even if another make/brand).
